Fisher appointed VP for development

William J. (Jim) Fisher has been appointed vice president for development at MUSC. He succeeds William W. Matthew, who retired June 30.

Fisher has been with the Medical University since 1979, serving as executive director of development since 1983.

The vice president for development is charged with the overall leadership, coordination and supervision of the offices of Development and Alumni Affairs. He is responsible for a variety of fund raising programs which include leadership gifts, annual funds, major gifts, planned gifts, corporate and foundation relations and capital campaigns.

A native of Charleston, Fisher received his B.S. degree in business administration from the University of South Carolina in 1976.

An accredited member of the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy, Fisher is founding president of the Lowcountry Chapter of the National Society of Fund Raising Executives. He is a past president of the South Carolina Hospital Association for Fund Development.

Fisher serves as president of the Charleston School of the Arts Governance Council and member of the South Carolina Nonprofit Advisory Board. He also has served as vice president of the Carolina Youth Development Center Board of Directors and president of the Nativity School Board.
