Board of directors of HSF elected

William B. Hewitt, president of Sirius Ventures, Inc., and a resident of Charleston was re-elected chairman of the Board of Directors of the Health Sciences Foundation at a recent meeting. The purpose of the foundation is to support educational, research, patient care and other programs of the Medical University of South Carolina.

John Tucker Morse, chairman of HOME Account Network, Inc., and a resident of Charleston was re-elected vice chairman. Thomas Waring, Esquire, a partner in the law firm of Holmes and Thomson, also a resident of Charleston was re-elected treasurer. William M. Matthew, vice president for the Health Science Foundation, will continue to serve as secretary.

Newly elected to the board were Charles F. Cooper and John Frederick Ruffle. Cooper, of Pawley’s Island, is a pharmacist and president of Winyah Health Care Group in Georgetown. Ruffle, of Seabrook Island is retired as vice chairman and director of J.P. Morgan and Company, Inc. and Morgan Guaranty Trust Company of New York.

Re-elected as directors, in addition to Waring, were Margaret B. Bobo, a private business owner in Charleston; Dr. Harold W. Jablon, a dentist in Columbia; and Theodora L. Feldberg of Hilton Head, former associate director of Resource Development at Harvard Medical School. Frank W. Brumley of Charleston, president of The Brumley Company, was elected Director Emeritus.

The Honorable Robert C. Lake, Jr., of Newberry County, an attorney and tree farmer, was reappointed by MUSC’s Board of Trustees to serve as one of three appointees on the Health Sciences Foundation Board.
