Healthy S.T.A.E. program for seniors begins at HSC Oct. 12

The next session of the Harper Student center senior exercise program is about to begin! Designed specifically for retired adults, the program combines Strength Training and Aerobic Exercise (S.T.A.E.), plus flexibility exercises.

Classes meet every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, from 10:30 a.m. until noon. The class will last 10 weeks and includes a fitness assessment prior to the start, and then again in the 10th week. Classes will follow an easy progression schedule beginning with a light warm-up and stretching to aerobic exercise, followed by 30 minutes of weight training.

Each class will end with an easy cool-down exercise and more stretching. The program is not recommended for rehabilitation or physical therapy purposes. It is intended to keep seniors physically active and healthy. Participants will be closely supervised during all phases of training. The program is free to members of the Harper Student Center. Non-member cost is $109.38. Classes begin Oct. 12. Registration forms are available at the Harper Student Center. For more information contact Jim Tomsic at 792-5485.
