National Cancer Registrar Week is April 12-18

Once again, April 12-18 has been declared National Cancer Registrar's Week. This is a opportunity for health care professionals to recognize and become familiar with their hospital's cancer registry.

The question might be asked,“ What do you do, register tumors?” Well, yes, kind of. The Cancer Registry is the data collection component of the American College of Surgeons Cancer Program. The registry collects data on all patient's that are diagnosed and/or treated at MUSC*. Demographics, tumor size, stage, histology, treatment, follow up and recurrence are some of the data items that are collected. MUSC's registry has information from 1985 to the present.

There are many uses for this information and the registry staff is available to supply any reports or statistics that are need.
