Ivey named RN of the Year

Jo Ivey has been selected as the MUSC Registered Nurse (R.N.) of the Year. She is the coordinator of Urology Clinic Module 11.

Respected by her staff and colleagues, Ivey is said to represent excellence in patient care by exhibiting exemplary care and leadership.

"She is never too busy to lend a hand, see one more patient, hear a complaint or field a question. She demonstrates the best attributes of a caring patient advocate, clinic coordinator, department/clinic liaison and working nurse," said one of Ivey's physicians.

Along with her responsibilities at MUSC, Ivey participates in many nursing opportunities in the community. She administers prostate screenings at health fairs, gives lectures at rural churches on prostate cancer and mentors children by channeling their energy through sports.

Ivey is an active member in the Society of Urologic Nursing Association. She published an article in the Journal of Urologic Nursing on Continent Urinary Diversions. Ivey was the recent recipient of the Ambulatory Care Jane Rothaermel Excellence Award for Leadership in Ambulatory Nursing.

In addition to the MUSC R.N. of the Year award, two honorable mentions given: Rikki Moye and Kristen Larson.

Moye has been a member of the 6 East team for over two years, providing care to nephrology and kidney/pancreas/liver transplant patients in the Medical Center.

Larson has been a member of the MUSC Medical Center team since 1992 and is currently working in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit.
