Legislative Audit Council to begin university audit

Representatives from the South Carolina Legislative Audit Council have held their entry conference with MUSC president James B. Edwards, DMD, and will begin their audit of the university in the near future.

Susan Haskill, director of financial reporting and analysis, will serve as liaison for the Medical University and Robert Wood, administrator and controller of University Medical Associates, will serve as liaison for any issues involving UMA.

"As liaisons, Haskill and Wood will assist the auditor while on campus and your cooperation will be appreciated should you be contacted regarding needed information," Edwards said, addressing MUSC and UMA employees. He said that the audit by the Legislative Audit Council will focus on a number of questions raised in letters to the council from several members of the South Carolina General Assembly.

"I look forward to receiving the auditor's recommendations and findings," Edwards said. "We are always seeking ways to improve the university's effectiveness and efficiency of operations as well as clarify any misunderstandings that our legislators or the general public may have regarding the Medical University's activities. As with all audits and reviews, Legislative Audit Council officials will receive our full support."

While no specific date has been established for completion of the report, once finalized, it will be shared with the Medical University family, Edwards said.
