Anesthesia for nurses class excels on national exam

The class of 1997 in the Anesthesia for Nurses Program has achieved outstanding results on the National Certification Exam since the program began in 1965.

The class had a mean score of 561 out of 600, compared to a national mean score of 540. In addition, three MUSC graduates earned the highest possible score, a 600. These MUSC alumni received master of health science degrees in August 1997 and became Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists in November 1997.

Much of the alumni success is attributed to Lawrence Truver, MSNA, CRNA, and Thomas Thayer, MSN, CRNA, who strive for excellence in teaching and ways to improve the program's students. The Anesthesia for Nurses Program is part of the Department of Clinical Services in the College of Health Professions. Truver was named the Nursing College's Teacher of the Year for 1998.
