SGA president updates students on events

by Gretchen Wriston, MUSC SGA President

On behalf of the MUSC Student Government Association, I would like to welcome you back!

I hope you all enjoyed your holiday vacation and are looking forward to an exciting spring semester. Our calendar is loaded with a variety of activities and entertainment. In addition, I would like to give you an update on what your MUSC Student Government Association has been working on for this semester.

SGA Happenings and Upcoming Events...

The SGA has a great spring calendar of events already planned. Some highlights include the “MUSC Winetasting” (which includes an educational seminar before the party), the “SGA/CON Oyster Roast,” and “Fat Tuesday in the Horseshoe.”

In addition, we will continue our concert series at the St. Luke's Chapel.

And, of course, “Alhambra!” For you rookies out there or for those of you who might need a refresher course about Alhambra, it is an annual springfest held at Boone Hall Plantation. It entails great bands (this year featuring “Velveeta”), tug-a-war, bungee runs and much more. Alhambra is one of SGA's biggest events and is scheduled for April 10. Mark your calendars for the must attend event.

Down to Business...

  • Spring Parking Registration. This spring, registration will be on two days: Tuesday, April 13 at 6:15 p.m. and Wednesday, April 14 at 6:15 a.m. The available spaces in every lot will be divided in half. half of the spaces will be sold on Tuesday and the other half will be sold on Wednesday.
  • Lighting in the Library. Currently the SGA and the library administration are adding portable lamps for the desks and study rooms. Keep hitting the books!
  • Food in the Classrooms. If we do not start cleaning up after ourselves (i.e. coke cans, coffee cups, wrappers...) we will permanently lose the privilege to eat and drink in the classrooms. The administration is doing their part by recently increasing the number of times the trash cans will be emptied, paying particular attention at lunch time (i.e. lunchmeetings). So, please help out: pitch in and clean up!
  • Computer in the HSC. The SGA is currently working on putting a computer in the Harper Student Wellness Center Lounge in order to check e-mail and electronic grades. The computer is coming soon to a student center near you!
  • University-Wide Honor Code. The SGA and the University-Wide Honor Council is currently writing the new University-Wide Honor Code.

Finally, feel free to contact me through e-mail at wristoga@musc.edu or phone 577-3992 with any of your comments or ideas. Enjoy this spring and I look forward to hearing from you!
