Enrollment Services moves, adds tours, visitor information

It’s been in the works for more than a year, but on Dec. 30, on the brink of the new millennium, the Office of Enrollment Services moved into a new location at 41 Bee Street.

Vicki Strickland, information resources consultant, and Stephen VanPelt, information resource coordinator, set up a printer at the new Office of Enrollment Services.

Known as the Vince Moseley Building, this new location allows the office to feature one of its newest services: the Visitor Information and Campus Tour Center.

Located in the southeast corner of the building, with a door opening directly to the Visitor Parking lot, the center will provide general information about the Medical University and Charleston and will conduct campus tours.

“The center will serve as a ‘front gate,’ welcoming prospective students and visitors to the campus,” said Joye Hanna, who staffs the center and worked in a similar capacity with the City of Charleston. “It’ll be a starting point for those seeking to make health career decisions; it’ll be an entering point for those searching for information about our academic health science center; and it’ll be a jumping off point for anyone wanting to know more about our city.”

Movers help the Office of Enrollment Services make the transition to its new home.

The Vince Moseley location also makes it possible for seven staff members previously located in two offices on Ehrhardt Street and 18 staff members once housed in the Library and Administration Building to share the same roof. The unification of the staff will enable better communication within the office, which in turn is expected to improve the level of service to the university.

Because the Moseley building contains a training/conference room, the location will further facilitate the group training of staff in the new version of student information system software, to be implemented later in 2000.

The facility will also permit small-group information sessions to be held between staff and other university offices and with campus visitors.

The new integration of visitor services, computer and Internet technology services, admission/ registration/ academic records services, publications, and academic information reporting will do much to enhance the mission of the office.

“This is a wonderful way to start the new century,” said Jim Menzel, executive director of the office. “We are grateful to have been entrusted by the university with this beautiful facility...and we intend to justify our presence in it.  We’re looking forward to opening our new doors both to visitors and to the university community alike.”

Staff telephone numbers and e-mail addresses have not been changed.  Office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. An open house is planned for February.
