MUSC's Human Resources Department to host free personal finance teleconference

With a new century just around the corner, many Americans are wondering what lies ahead for the economy and technology. The way people invest money is changing fast—from online stock trades to global cash flows. Will today's strategies for managing one's personal finances still make sense tomorrow?

Planning for retirement, saving for college, and even buying a new home may seem more challenging than ever in today's dynamic investment climate. That's why TIAA-CREF, a leading national, nonprofit financial services organization, is presenting Financial Strategies For a New Century: Tips From America's Experts, a free 90-minute teleconference that will be broadcast live via satellite from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Friday. Oct. 22 in room 107 of the Administration Building.

During the teleconference, a panel of forward-thinking experts on investing and personal finance will size up the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. They'll provide a fresh perspective on our changing economy and offer their insights, strategies, and practical suggestions that anyone can use to help build financial security.

The broadcast is open to the public and the media. Individuals interested in attending can call Holly Maben, Human Resources benefits coordinator, at 792-4674 or e-mail to mabenh@musc.edu.

Panelists for the teleconference include: Martin Liebowitz, vice chairman and chief investment officer of TIAA-CREF; William F. Sharpe, 1990 Nobel Laureate in Economics, Stanford University; Teresa Tritch, senior editor, Money magazine; and Chris Farrell, co-host and Economics editor of NPR's Sound Money. The discussion will be moderated by NBCs news correspondent Cassandra Clayton.
