Children learn ins, outs of healthy teeth

Children at the Cannon Street YMCA get a lesson in good dental health from second-year students from the College of Dental Medicine.

Using puppets, charts and teeth models, students from the College of Dental Medicine taught children at the Cannon Street YMCA the art of proper tooth brushing and flossing, good nutrition habits, and how important teeth are to a person's overall health.

The children also received a dental goodie bag with a soft toothbrush, floss, fluoride toothpaste and educational material.

As part of the program, dental students read the book, My Smile and Me, to the children.

AThe YMCA has an ongoing reading program called YReaders which meets at  4 p.m., Monday through Friday. If you would like more information on the reading program, call Bob Woodruff at Cannon Street YMCA at 577-9622 or Sharon Crossley, College of Dental Medicine community academic coordinator at 792-6614.
