Griffin memorial walk slated for Jan. 15 Four years ago the community was rocked by the tragic and unexpected death of Laura Griffin, a graduate student of MUSC, and also the director of College of Charleston's Office of Substance Abuse prevention.  While jogging on the Battery, she was struck by a hit and run driver and died five days later. Ironically, the driver of the vehicle was under the influence, the very cause Laura was fighting against. As a legacy to Laura Griffin's work in the Charleston community and across the state, the Laura Griffin Memorial 5K Run/Walk was initiated. The proceeds raised from the run/walk will fund student scholarships and a fellowship in her name and commemorate her life's work in substance abuse prevention. The run/walk is USATF certified and will start at the College of Charleston and wind through the historic streets of downtown.
