Summer camp to be held for children with ADHD

The deadline for enrollment in the Summer Treatment Program (STP), a camp for children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD, is due on March 1.

The program offers a combination of treatment and recreational activities for a child's special needs. Parents are encouraged to participate in a weekly evening education group. Medicine treatment is evaluated as well.

Located on the campus of Trident Academy in Mount Pleasant, the program is directed by Cora Ezzell, Ph.D, a clinical psychologist at MUSC. Children are placed in groups of 11 peers and five clinical staff members; the group stays together throughout the day to encourage teamwork and friendships. Daily behavior modification sessions are taught in a classroom context with special education teachers.

The program, sponsored by Trident Academy and MUSC, will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday beginning June 21. The cost is $2,900 with a deposit of $300 to be paid when the application is turned in.

Applicants will be interviewed during the month of March and will be notified of acceptance by April 15.
