2000 HSF nominees announced for teaching awards 

Faculty and students nominated 36 faculty members to be considered for this year’s Health Sciences Foundation Teaching Excellence Awards. 

This year for the first time, the awards will be presented at the Fall Faculty Convocation in August, but the provost, Rosalie Crouch, Ph.D., will announce the winners in The Catalyst the week before Commencement for the benefit of graduating students.

A review committee composed of faculty representatives from each college, the general faculty, and the Student Government Association will select the recipients.

Up to three awards will be presented from the following categories:  Educator-Mentor, for excellence in mentoring and serving as a role model for students in clinical or research activities; Educator-Lecturer, for excellence in traditional didactic or classroom teaching; and Developing Teacher, for excellence in teaching by a junior faculty member.
 Each recipient will be presented a $3,000 cash award, a $1,000 travel allowance for professional development related to teaching improvement, a personalized plaque, a pewter medallion to be worn with academic regalia, and a specially designated parking space in G-lot for one year.
