J. Mark Barry, DMD, fired a salvo of common sense at the nation's smokeless tobacco industry recently.

Speaking to a cross section of dentists and dental hygientists in Columbia, Barry provided information on epidemiologic studies including oral and systemic complications, addiction and prevention. He also focused on marketing and industry strategies including the influence of baseball. Barry described smokeless tobacco as the “silent addiction.”

Many products were available to familiarize the audience including finely ground snuff to loose leaf chewing tobacco. The seminar was sponsored by Pierre Fauchard Academy.
