Gallager to chair a new ‘employee oriented’ campaign

Robert C. Gallager, vice president for finance and administration, has agreed to serve as chair of the 1999 Yearly Employee Support (YES) Campaign.

Gallager is a member of MUSC's Leadership Society and the Society of 1824 through his longstanding personal support of the university's Health Sciences Foundation.

Gallager has served a multitude of community programs ranging from Goodwill Industries of Lower South Carolina and Family Services of Charleston to the Coastal Carolina Council of Boy Scouts and the Public Education Foundation of Charleston County.

“We are looking forward to the wealth of experience, commitment and leadership Mr. Gallager will bring to this year's initiatives,” said Maureen McCartney, employee campaign coordinator for the Office of Development.

The YES Campaign is an annual in-house fundraising drive in which employees make donations to support more than 300 funds throughout the Medical University.

During April employees have the opportunity to make a gift or pledge to support an area of the university that is important to them. Employees support a variety of research funds like the Children's Hospital Fund, which is dedicated to finding cures for childhood diseases.

Employees also can give to education funds like the Minority Scholarship Fund and patient care programs, like the cancer center's Camp Bluebird Fund.

“This year is an important year for the YES Campaign. We will be implementing some new initiatives aimed to give employees more input and benefits,” said Gallager. For example, the campaign will offer a new fund this year, the YES Unrestricted Fund, which will be used to fill needs that employees find within their departments. In addition to the new fund, the YES Campaign will develop an employee committee comprised of individuals throughout the university who will determine how these funds are allocated.

The 1999 goal for YES is $260,000.

“That might sound ambitious, but if every employee of the Medical University committed something to this year's campaign, we could surpass our goal and take the campaign to a new level both financially and in the services rendered. Whether an employee is part of the physical plant of physical therapy, PICU or CCIT, employees know firsthand who and what needs help. We hope that by giving employees more of an opportunity to respond to specific needs, they will help respond to those needs,” said Gallager.
