Commencement Ceremony slated for May 21

This year’s commencement ceremony will be held on Friday, May 21.

Candidates are requested to begin robing and to start lining up at 7:30 a.m. at locations identified in the materials enclosed with their cap and gown package.

The ceremony begins in the Horseshoe at 9 a.m. and continues until shortly after 11 a.m. In case of adverse weather, an announcement will be made by the university on local media stations by 7 a.m. that day and the ceremony will move to The Citadel’s McAlister Field House and will begin at 11 a.m. (not at 9 a.m.)

Instructions on both the Horseshoe and the McAlister ceremonies will be included with your cap and gown package.

Candidates for graduation may pick up caps and gowns, invitations, and calling cards, plus general instructions at 21-D Ehrhardt St. (located behind the Psychiatric Institute and beside the Gazes/Thurmond Building).

This distribution site is open Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through noon May 14.

Reserved parking and seating at commencement are available for your guests who are disabled. Parking permits and reserved seating passes are available from Enrollment Services (Admin/Library Building, room 203).

Closed circuit TV coverage of the Horseshoe ceremony will be broadcast live to Basic Science Building, room 302 for those guests who choose not to sit outside.

Diplomas will be distributed immediately following the ceremony at the site where candidates robed and lined up. These sites will remain open on commencement day until 1 p.m. After that time, diplomas may be claimed beginning Monday, May 24, at Enrollment Services in the Admin/Library Building, room 203.

Latin honors are awarded only for baccalaureate degrees. These honors are: Cum Laude 3.7 – 3.79; Magna Cum Laude 3.8 – 3.89; and Summa Cum Laude 3.9 – 4.0. They are based only on MUSC work completed and are given only when the degree is awarded.

Transcripts showing degrees given will be available beginning the week after commencement. Once graduated, students are required to pay a fee for each transcript requested.
