Officer available to coordinate crime watch groups

The Department of Public Safety, in an effort to reduce the number of criminal incidents on campus, has a Public Safety officer available to coordinate “crime watch groups” within the hospital and university. The goal of this program is to increase the awareness of criminal activity on campus and identify areas of concern for employees.

Currently there is one group already in place in the Storm Eye Institute. Each floor has a representative attend monthly meetings which last from 30 to 45 minutes.

Topics discussed at the meetings include; criminal incidents that have occurred in the Eye Institute, if any, crime prevention methods both on and off campus, and security concerns brought forward by employees.

This is an excellent way to address the safety and security concerns of employees at a time commitment of as little as 30 to 45 minutes per month.

The Department of Public Safety Crime Prevention Officer is also available to attend departmental staff meetings and conduct in-service training on a variety of crime prevention related topics.

If you are interested in participating in a similar group in your department or building, contact the Department of Public Safety Crime Prevention Office at 792-0359 or e-mail at andersmi@musc.edu.
