Emerald identifies electronic medical record system

The Emerald project, a.k.a. MUSC's electronic medical record effort, now has two official graphics. Expect to see these graphics in Catalyst articles and other project-related materials.

Last year, more than 150 submissions were received in a naming contest for the electronic medical record project. The winner received a dinner for two at a local restaurant.

“Emerald” was the pick.

Although some people ask if 'Emerald' is an acronym that stands for something, it doesn't, at least so far. Rather, the committee chose the name, ‘Emerald,’ simply as a name for the new system.

The Emerald system consists of many component parts including: Oacis, LanVision's document imaging system, Agfa's PACS or radiology images system, PMSI/Practice Partner and a variety of clinical support systems which include Cerner's laboratory and pharmacy systems and IDX's radiology support system.

The new name and Emerald graphics represent the integrated whole.

The corresponding graphics embody a traditional emerald stone shape. The smaller of the two graphics can be used as a desktop icon or within publications where space is important. This smaller graphic contains both MUSC and Emerald lettering.

The larger graphic includes the more descriptive wording, “electronic medical record system,” as well as spelling out “Medical University of South Carolina.” In addition, the larger graphic is consistent with the new MUSC logo. Both graphics include the MUSC name which allow the graphics to stand alone outside of MUSC.

Questions about Emerald can be answered at the project web site at http://emerald.musc.edu or send an e-mail to emr-info@musc.edu.
