MUSC cost accounting standards to be discussed

Faculty and academic business managers are encouraged to attend an informative meeting about MUSC's Board-approved Cost Accounting Standards Disclosure Statement at 10 a.m. on May 27 at Baruch Auditorium.

By understanding the policies and procedures described in this statement, those involved can better assess how this new code for doing business will influence their life in academia.

Accounting standards tailored to suit a research-intensive institution were required in Circular A21. Specific MUSC standards that articulated policies and procedures were developed by various groups of faculty and staff. Each of their reports are on MUSC's web at: <http://www.musc.edu/research/cas/toc.htm>. In addition, subject-specific articles are archived from last summer's series which appeared in the Catalyst at: <http://www.musc.edu/catalyst/sub/mar.htm>.

The issues receiving most attention are Effort Reporting, the Affiliates (incorporation of UMA salary in research proposals), and budget requirements for Clinical Trials. Come to the forum and understand how these and other accounting policies/procedures will effect academic life.
