'Maildrop' a SIMON system improvement

Not everyone considers the Hospital Communications SIMON system for group messaging useful and positive. Some see it as disruptive, nonprofessional and negative.

Say you’re in a meeting or in consultation with a patient and you receive a nonprofessional, nonclinical message such as a baby announcement or a social event. And it came with an audible notification.

While many applaud this service, others do not.

“Maildrop” is a feature that allows the individual user to receive a total of three different types of messaging: Routine, Emergency and Maildrop.

With maildrop, the current SIMON pager can be programmed to the same variety of alerts currently provided for routine paging; including silent vibrate or no alert. This allows each user to audibly differentiate professional from informational messages.

The SIMON pager can be programmed to sound one alert for routine and another for maildrop. Likewise it can be programmed to audibly alert for routine and not alert for informational messages. This can be decided at the discretion of the user.

Maildrop is available for operator-initiated pages only, otherwise all pages are under the same status. A universal maildrop message will be sent just prior to the release of this new SIMON feature in July.
