Salinas presents at craniofacial conference

Carlos Salinas, DDS, DMD, a professor in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics, was a guest speaker at a conference on craniofacial genetics and oral-dental manifestation of genetics disorders at Bene-merita Universidad de Puebla in Puebla, Mexico.

Salinas, who is also the director of the MUSC Craniofacial Anomalies and Cleft Palate Center, lectured on topics including single oral traits and complex disorders involving the craniofacial structures.

Besides lecturing, Salinas had the opportunity to examine unusual cases, review charts with colleagues and learn about their efforts to develop clinical and basic research.

Salinas visited the University of Puebla's medical school and dental school. “I was very impressed by the facilities of the dental school graduate programs and by the hospitality and generosity of the colleagues from the university,” Salinas said.

He also visited the Children's Hospital of Puebla, a 100-bed tertiary facility.

“I feel that there are plenty of opportunities for us to work together with our Mexican colleagues in clinical or basic research studies of common interest,” said Salinas, who is also a member of the MUSC International Affairs Committee.
