Free health fair to be offered Saturday, Aug. 14

“Take That First Step” to improving your health and participate in a free health fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug 14.

“Take That First Step” will commemorate the recent opening of University Family Medicine and Trident Community Center, both of which are located in a new 23,000 square-foot building on the Trident Medical Center campus.

University Family Medicine and Trident Health System physicians and medical professionals will provide screenings, activities and consultations.

Offerings will include:

  • Sports Injury Screening—Sports medicine therapists, physicians and exercise therapists will screen for sports-related injuries. Medical specialists will show you how to protect yourself from injury and improve your game at the same time.
  • Pre-participation Physicals—Is your student planning to play sports at school this fall? If so, bring them by for a pre-participation physical.
  • Osteoporosis Screening—How strong are your bones? Roughly 25 million Americans suffer from osteoporosis. Test your bone density and learn what actions you can take to prevent or treat osteoporosis.
  • Diabetes Screening—Evaluate your lifestyle and have your blood tested to determine if you are at risk for diabetes. Talk to health professionals about living with diabetes.
  • Ask the Pharmacist—Bring in your prescription, over-the-counter and herbal medicine for review by an MUSC pharmacist. Find out how to take your medications properly and ask questions about possible interactions between drugs, the benefits of use and their side effects. Clean out your medicine cabinet and bring expired medications for proper disposal.
  • Immunizations—Immunizations play an important role in keeping your children healthy. Find out which immunizations your children need and when.
  • General Health Assessment—Talk with a physician about your screening results and develop a plan for healthy living that meets your needs.
During the “Take That First Step,” participants can also have a blood pressure screening, body fat analysis, heart risk assessment, sleep assessment or learn more about smoking cessation.
