Keefe appointed to Johnson & Johnson board

College of Nursing dean Maureen Keefe, R.N., Ph.D., has been appointed to the advisory board of the Johnson & Johnson, Pediatric Institute, Ltd.

Johnson & Johnson, known worldwide as a leader in maternal and infant care, has formed the institute to be dedicated to offering a wide range of professional programs and patient resources to improve and enhance quality of care to mothers and infants. Programs include an international speakers bureau and 1-877-JNJ-Link resource line, videos and educational materials for professionals and parents.

Keefe joins Errol Alden, deputy executive director of the American Academy of Pediatrics; Tiffany Field, director, Touch Research Institute; Robert Haggerty, professor emeritus of pediatrics, and others as a newly appointed board member. At the media briefing event in New York, Keefe presented her work on infant colic. The briefing led to more than 30 other radio, TV and journal interviews in media markets around the country.

The media briefings and interviews provide forums from which Keefe and other experts are able to share their research and insight on maternal and infant care.

“The Pediatric Institute is an excellent educational initiative and I've agreed to participate under the provision that I am identified as the dean of the College of Nursing at the Medical University of South Carolina,” Keefe said.

As dean and faculty member at MUSC, Keefe is contacted frequently to speak about her approaches to managing infant irritability.

“I'm happy to do all I can to help parents in what can be among the most trying times of their lives—caring for their infant. And I'm happy that in this forum MUSC can be represented as the fine institution it is.”
