Center for Health Care Research
The Finance and Economics Unit (FEU) has been established to develop high quality, funded research programs in health economics and finance.

In addition, the unit is designed to respond to other investigators and departmental research and programmatic needs in finance and economics. The FEU serves MUSC's academic departments, administrative departments, decision-makers and researchers at other institutions, and state policy makers.

The unit is comprised of experts in the areas of health care cost, finance and economics and specialized support staff to facilitate efficient provision of research and consultative services.

The areas of expertise of the FEU include conducting: cost effectiveness studies, cost-benefit studies, economic impact studies, econometric design of outcomes assessment studies using retrospective or administrative data, and programs in continuing education. FEU section investigators are also qualified to assist in studying administrative and program evaluation issues.

The FEU has four principal faculty members. W. David Bradford is an associate professor in the Center for Health Care Research (CHCR) and the Department of Health Administration and Policy. Bradford's primary current research areas involve programmatic and technology assessment, the economics of cardiac care, and the economics of adverse birth outcomes.

Complementing the team is Kit N. Simpson, Ph.D., who has experience in the design and analysis of economic clinical trials, health outcomes, cost measurement, and economic modeling studies, and the use of billing data in outcomes research.

James Zoller, Ph.D., brings skills in survey methodology, cost-effectiveness analysis, quality improvement and outcomes assessment.

David M. Ward's, Ph.D., research areas include resource allocation for preventive services, cost-effectiveness analysis, and the finances of long term care facilities.

Scott Davis rounds out the team as the research associate with expertise in data analysis, quality control, and data validation.
