Mammography department offers breast cancer screening Oct. 2, 9

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women in the United States. One woman in eight has a lifetime risk of developing breast cancer.

Because October is designated as breast cancer awareness month, the Department of Mammography will be open two Saturdays in October to perform employee screening mammography at 30 Bee Street.

Employees who are due for a screening mammogram in October can take part in the Saturday screenings. Participants must have a written referral from a physician.

The dates for the screening are Saturday, Oct. 2 and Oct. 9. Call 792-8439 to schedule an appointment.

Current mammography guidelines from the American Cancer Society recommend a baseline mammogram between the ages of 35 and 40, and yearly mammograms for all women 40 years of age and older. However, some insurance companies do not follow these recommendations.
