Library welcomes informatics specialist

by Nancy McKeehan
Assistant director of library for systems

Library administrators are pleased to announce the appointment of Judith Wisniewski as the library's informatics lab manager.

This new position will provide focused leadership for continuing informatics lab development and expanded capabilities in areas of educational technology support for MUSC faculty.

Wisniewski will have management responsibility for the Informatics Lab and classroom facility, which includes almost 200 fully networked computers arrayed in four classrooms, an open lab, and a multimedia area on the library's fourth floor and for the North Tower lab in the Medical Center.

In addition, she will plan and manage the faculty development aspects of the library program, working with MUSC teaching faculty to develop resources such as course-based websites, to identify commercially available software for their courses, and to learn about new opportunities in areas of educational technology.

Wisniewski comes from Delaware County Community College, a large junior college located in the western suburbs of Philadelphia, where she was coordinator of the graphic design degree program.

For the past 11 years, she has been involved in the design, delivery, supervision, and assessment of computer-based instruction.

With experience working in a dual platform (Macintosh and Windows) environment using a broad array of software, managing and planning microcomputer labs, and working with faculty to improve their technical and teaching skills, Wisniewski brings to the library program a strong set of skills.

She joined the Library Systems team on Aug. 16.

Faculty are invited to meet or contact her by e-mail (wisniejc@musc.edu), phone 792-4369 or drop by the Library Systems office, room 425.
