Charity raises $35,000 for Lowcountry children

The 13th Annual Carolina Children's Charity walk-a-thon, also known as the Strut, netted more than $35,000 to help Lowcountry children with birth defects and disabling diseases.

Three-hundred participants enjoyed superb weather, pleasant wildlife and marine scenery during the event held Saturday, Sept. 16 at Charles Towne Landing.

The College of Dental Medicine and other businesses, companies, organizations, churches and schools, formed teams to participate in the Strut. Several charity diplomats were on hand to distribute certificates to participants as well as cheer at the finish line.

Special thanks go out to the major sponsors of this event: WCBD-TV2, Piggly Wiggly Greenbax Stamps and Cat Country 107.5. Participants enjoyed a complimentary lunch at the end of the walk sponsored by Kentucky Fried Chicken, Pepsi Cola and Rococo Bakery.

All money raised by the Strut remains in the Lowcountry to help children within our community. Proceeds help fund specialized equipment, therapy, surgery, medications, camps and various other needs these children and their families may have which are not paid for by other sources.
