MUSC children's holiday greeting cards on sale

This year, send your holiday greetings on cards created especially for the season by Children’s Hospital patients.

Now in its eighth year, the Kids Helping Kids Holiday Card Project will raise funds to support research and programs at the Children’s Hospital.

The annual “Kids Helping Kids” Holiday Card Project got off to a good start as the young artists posed with area members of the Kiwanis Clubs of Charleston during a reception in their honor Nov. 1. The children, all former patients at MUSC Children's Hospital, created 20 works of art featuring a Christmas theme. Artists pictured are: Richie Ellie, Haley Evans, Hannah Martin, Monica Kreber, Emily Horres, Brandon Peek, Chelsea Hamner and Sherrel Singleton. For more on the card project, see page 14.

Each year, the local businesses who sponsor the project select artwork to be included in the pack of cards. Because these sponsors underwrite the cards' production costs, all proceeds from the project directly the Children’s Hospital. Last year, “Kids Helping Kids” raised about $60,000.   A set of 20 cards and envelopes is $10. Cards are available now and can be ordered by calling 792-1112. Orders should be placed prior to Dec. 1 to ensure delivery.

Children's Hospital Fund helper Christie Whitener presents 11-year-old artist Sherrel Singleton of Mount Pleasant with a box of complimentary holiday cards.

Cards can also be purchased at Jordan Medical Bookstore (162 Ashley Ave.) MUSC Wellness Center, MUSC Volunteer Office, local branches of BB&T, Bank of America, First Union National Bank, First Federal of Charleston and South Carolina Federal Credit Union, and all SunCom retail outlets.
