MUSC residents enjoy day at country club

Sunday, April 16, marked the second MUSC Residents' Golf Tournament and Family Picnic presented by MUSC's  Office of Graduate Medical Education (GME).

Eighty golfers participated in a Captain's Choice tournament at the Charleston National Country Club (CNCC) in Mount Pleasant. Following the tournament, about 40 spouses, along with their infants and toddlers, joined the golfers for a cookout at the CNCC Clubhouse.

Members of the winning team, from the Department of Anesthesiology, were Rex Gerding, Rick Kellett, Derek Randall and Patrick Williams.

The second place team members were John Adams, Tony Lancaster, Fran Tunney and Jeff Toohey, all from Emergency Medicine.

The third place team, from the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, consisted of Gerald Copeland, Jody Cremer, Paul Davis and Randy Ward (team sponsor). In addition to awards presented to the top three teams, 15 prizes were distributed through a drawing held during the picnic.

The tournament was made possible by the generous donations of several sponsors: SelectHealth of South Carolina Inc., Wyeth-Ayerst, Pfizer, Bristol-Myers Squibb, GlaxoWellcome and Astra-Zeneca.

Team awards and prizes for the drawing were donated by: Regions Bank, Nick's Hair Salon, That's Amore Pizzeria, Trattoria Piratella Restaurant, Southend Brewery & Smokehouse, Dr. Peter Hayes, Patterson Dental Supply and Nevada Bob's Discount Golf.

“This tournament was bigger and better than the first one we held last December,” said Franklin Medio, Ph.D., GME director.

Both a golf tournament and picnic and tennis tournament and picnic are planned for residents and their partners this fall.
