Employees receive awards for job well done

AREA (Accountability, Respect, Excellence Applause) awards were given to employees who have gone above and beyond their job description and have demonstrated actions exemplary to the mission, visions and values of the Medical University.

Employees received a gift certificate to either Citadel or Northwoods mall. The recipients are:

  • Elaine Rawls, and Vickie Scheibla, Digestive Diseases Center: In lieu of gift exchanges for Christmas, many Digestive Diseases Center/GI staff and faculty contributed money to “Blanket the Enterprise Community.” Rawls and Scheibla led the project from negotiations with the supplier to purchasing 307 blankets and delivering them to each of the Enterprise Community’s residents.
  • Erika Mitten, Public Safety: Mitten changed an employee’s flat tire in the cold rain at night. She was very kind and did not mind getting wet and dirty to help the stranded employee.
  • Monica McKnight, Institute of Psychiatry: A patient’s mother and grandmother had traveled for more than two hours for an appointment at the IOP. McKnight went and got them lunch because they were very hungry.
  • Lee Erbe, General Surgery: A new transplant patient ran out of money due to an extended hospital stay. Erbe bought some of the patient’s medicine to help with his heart arrhythmia.
