Lunchtime learning launched at forum

The first in a series of Brown Bag Forum sessions was held on June 27.

About 40 people crowded the cafe style seating arrangement to eat their lunches and listen to Jerry Ondo demonstrate his creative use of PowerPoint to jazz up his lectures. The first slide launched into Bebe Neuwirth belting out the “All That Jazz” song from the Broadway musical, Chicago.

During the past two years, Ondo has converted his lectures into PowerPoint and has incorporated many multimedia features including music, narration, motion video and more.

Suggestions for future Brown Bag Forum topics included hands-on skills sessions for learning PowerPoint, Photoshop, scanning, digital cameras, etc.

Audience members expressed concerns about faculty incentives for teaching, finding time to learn all the wonderful things Ondo has learned, educational fair use, and other topics.

The next Brown Bag Forum will be held on Tuesday, July 25, from noon to 1 p.m. in the Wellness Center Auditorium. Tom Waldrep of the Writing Center will give a talk entitled, “Who Wants to Win a Golden Apple? Lifelines from the Center from Academic Excellence.”

Please bring your lunch, talk about teaching and share ideas with your colleagues on July 25.
