Meet...Judy

Name: Judy Garris.

Department: Volunteer Services.

How long at MUSC: Eleven years.

Born: Charleston.

Family: Husband, Grady. Three pugs: Willy, Wally and Winston. Six cats: Amos, Miss Grace, Maybelline, Nadine…Birds: Alphie a 35 year old cockateel and several parakeets.

Favorite book: “The Glass Lake” by Maeve Binchy.

Favorite food: Italian.

Favorite restaurant: My house. I make the best spaghetti in town!

Pet peeve: Slow people.

What do you like most about your job: The wide variety of people I deal with. Our volunteers come because they want to do something for somebody. They are so upbeat!

What is your biggest challenge: Managing my supervisor!

Guests to imaginary dinner party: Kevin Costner, Julio Iglesias and Michael Flately (Riverdance).

Words that best match your personality: Wild, crazy!

Hobbies: I love the outdoors; gardening is my favorite thing to do. I grow flowers and I have an herb garden with sweet basil, dill, oregano, lemon thyme, chocolate mint and many more. I also love to dance, shagging especially!

Dream vacation: Ireland and Scotland.

Describe a perfect day: I’d go straight to the mountains of Tennessee and go hiking.

Most treasured material possession: My husband.

Something people don’t know about you: That I was a swimming instructor at Danny Jones swimming pool.

Words of advice: Don’t take life too seriously, enjoy yourself!
