NIH modifies its modular grants application

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has announced a number of modifications to the modular grant application, with the changes effective for the September application cycle. The major changes include:
  • The budget must now provide a narrative for all personnel by position, role, and level of effort, including consultants and any “to be appointed” positions. Previously, this information was only required of key personnel.
  • Beginning Sept. 1, grants not submitted in accordance with the modular grant application requirements will be rejected and not reviewed. Applications will be considered non-compliant, for example, if the requested direct cost budget is not in modules of $25,000 for all years of support for requests up to $250,000 per year; a detailed itemized categorical budget is provided; or if the biographical sketch lists “Current and Pending Support” instead of or in addition to the required information.
Other changes can be found on the NIH website at <http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-00-046.html>
