Registration under way for PACT

Parents and Children Together (PACT) programs will be offered this fall beginning Sept. 11 in six locations across Charleston County.

More than 2,700 Charleston-area parents and children have taken this program since it began in Charleston nine years ago. PACT, the only program of its kind in South Carolina, provides family support and education from qualified family educators and professional early childhood teachers.

“It is important for children to have an opportunity to play together, apart from their parents, in a safe and nurturing environment,” said Sharon Ward, executive director. “Most children need a chance to ease into separation through short, successful experiences. Equally important is the opportunity for parents to talk together and share their successes and challenges.”

Each class of the 10-week session lasts from an hour and a half to two hours and offers parent-child “play and learn together” activities, followed by a parent discussion (with topics selected by parents) while their children play together with early childhood educators.

The fall schedule offers classes for children 6-15 months and 12-36 months.

The fees for PACT classes are very reasonable and are based on family income.

For more information or to register, call PACT at 769-5799.
