Employees receive AREA awards for exceptional performance

AREA (Accountability, Respect, Excellence Applause) awards were given to employees who have gone above and beyond their job description and have demonstrated actions exemplary to the mission, visions and values of the Medical University and Medical Center.

Employees received a $50 gift certificate to either Citadel or Northwoods mall. The AREA award recipients are:

  • Patrice Goletz, Ophthalmology: Goletz is always willing to help out and does so with a smile and great attitude. She never appears bothered or interrupted. Her attitude makes her a pleasure to work with and a great role model.
  • Kathy Hufnagle, Otolaryngology: At the end of a therapy session a patient fell and broke his nose. Hufnagle was able to think quickly by putting ice on his nose and calling an ENT doctor right away. The ENT doctor scheduled surgery for the next day. Hufnagle followed him through surgery and was there when he came into recovery.
  • Kristi Lenz, Pharm. D., Community Pharmacy Practice: Lenz went out of her way to help get a patient's medicine. She has even called the insurance company and drug stores all over the state at all hours of the day and night. She would order the medicine and ensure that it was delivered on time and was correct.
  • Cathy Martin, College of Medicine: Stepping up to the plate and taking charge of verifying faculty information without being asked. In doing this, Martin relieved stress from a project and the committee and placed a universitywide project ahead of its scheduled deadlines. She has shown diplomacy and tact with the sensitive subject of gathering information already thought to be compiled.
  • Warren Sholl Jr., Public Safety: Sholl donated his personal time to assist in fingerprinting children as part of the safe kids project.
  • Susan Wood, Hospital Patient Accounting: During the Big Free Show, Wood worked her heart out as Ida the Clown.
  • Susan Cook, 5East: Cook was recognized by fellow employees for improving their work environment.
