TO:    MUSC Family

FROM:  Ray Greenberg

SUBJ:  Compliments

Since becoming president, I have received many letters commending our faculty and staff for outstanding patient care.  These letters from patients and their families provide ample evidence of the high regard for our clinical services. It is a pleasure to share some of these letters with you, and thereby, to recognize the individuals who are providing some skilled and compassionate care.

To the Charleston Post and Courier:

We would like to take a moment to share with your readers the exceptional care our son received at MUSC on May 19. Our 3-year-old son was treated for outpatient surgery by Dr. Ian Aaronson and his staff. The entire staff showed patience, understanding and concern to our son and us.

We are comforted to know that we have such a wonderful medical facility right here in Charleston.

Dear Dr. Greenberg,
I have a very good comment about Terri Mizner. My son, James, had a pediatric neurology appointment today with Dr. Barbosa in Rutledge Tower. We came from Lousiana for his appointment and we are leaving Sunday. My son has seizures 20 times a day. He has no more medicine. When my son and I got here, we were told that he needs a referral. I called Family Medicine and asked Terri could they give my son a referral. From 2:30 p.m. until now (4 p.m.), Terri has been working with me to get an appointment for my son. Terri was able to get an appointment for my son for 12:45 tomorrow (Wednesday). I really appreciate the way she handled everything.

Dear Dr. (Ian) Taylor,
I just want to express my appreciation to you for the professional treatment I received from two fine doctors at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center over the weekend of 16 June. I was reported to Urgent Care at the VA Hospital feeling terrible and was admitted for what turned out to be a kidney infection.

Almost immediately after being admitted and assigned a room I was visited and examined by Dr. Henry Baskin Jr. Not very long later I was visited and examined by Dr. J. David Bohler. Having spent more than my share in the hospital, I don’t believe I have received any better level of caring attention by the attending physicians. ...Any anxiety was immediately erased by the professional approach and caring attitude projected by these two medical professionals.

Dear Dr. Greenberg,
I am writing to you to thank you for a wonderful staff, most notably the three residents on rotation in the MICU in July—Billy Jackson, David Sabol and Charlie Ducombs. All three are well trained, professional and compassionate.

While obviously doing all within their power to bring my husband through a horrible illness, they also took time to inform me, explain in detail, answer endless questions, inquire about my children, and reassure me whenever possible.

During the most difficult experience of my life, they became my three best friends. They often check on us now, even though they have moved on to new responsibilities.

I would also like to recognize Dr. John Heffner, who has been so kind and helpful. He was my husband’s doctor on 8 East, as well as the attending for one, two-week rotation in the MICU. What a tribute to this hospital to have such a brilliant caring physician.

We will always remember the excellent care we received at MUSC.
