Annual Educational Conference slated for Oct. 6, 7

The Second Annual Educational Conference, jointly sponsored by MUSC and The Institute of Religion and Health, will be held on Oct. 6 - 7 in Baruch Auditorium.

The conference will touch upon various subjects related to health and the healing of persons and self. New research, concepts of theory and praxis in applying faith-related issues to diagnosis, treatment and care of patients and applying healing to mind, body and spirit will be touched upon through a series of lectures by speakers and authors.

The speakers include:

  • Verna Benner Carson, Ph.D., “Nursing: Perspectives on Science and Service”
  • Francis McNutt, Ph.D., “Intercessory Prayer: Faith Seeking Wholeness”
  • Larry VandeCreek, Ph.D., “Spirituality in Medical Practice”
  • Dana King, M.D., “How to Take a Spiritual History: Starting the Dialog”
  • “Healing: It Takes a Heap of Help” led by Biemann Othersen, M.D., and Susan Clarkson, R.N. (Panel)
  • William Nichols, Ph.D., “The Power of the Media”
  • Elizabeth Arnold, Ph.D. and Karen Soeken, Ph.D., “Spirituality in Action: Caring for the Patient, Caring for the Self”
  • “The Healing of Persons (Vignettes of Healing: mind, body and spirit)” by Stephen McLeod-Bryant, M.D., Elizabeth Arnold, Ph.D., Chaplain Everson, James Eakers, M.D., Jonathan Venn, Ph.D. and Rosemary Ford, R.N.
  • “Praxis: Going Back Another Way” by Don Berry, Ph.D., Eve Spratt, M.D., Trey Kuhne, Ph.D., Karen Soeken, Ph.D., Allen Rashford, M.D., Ann Owens, R.N., and Amy Corder, R.N.
 The conference fee is $116 per person during early registration, which runs until Sept. 29. The fee is $160 after the early registration period and discounted rates are available for groups of three or more. Attendees will receive CME credit.
