Race for the Cure accepting grant requests

The Komen Charleston Race for the Cure is currently offering grants of up to $100,000 for innovative projects in the areas of breast health and/or breast cancer education/outreach, and screening or treatment support projects targeting services not otherwise available to the medically underserved populations of the Lowcountry*.

Through a community needs assessment, the Komen Charleston Race for the Cure has identified the following needs. Funding priority will be given to those projects that specifically address these needs.
  • Projects that provide culturally sensitive education and awareness campaigns designed to increase the number of women receiving breast health screening and information.
  • Projects with creative, collaborative ways to bridge the gaps in screening, diagnosis and treatment services for women who are under- and/or uninsured.
  • Projects that increase and coordinate support services, especially in rural communities
  • Projects that remove transportation barriers preventing women from being screened or receiving treatment.
Applications can be obtained by calling (843) 792-9186.

Applications are also available at <http://charlestonrace4cure.org>. Grants are available for up to one year.

Grant applications must be received by 5 p.m. Sept. 15. Grant proposals should be submitted to Sarah Payne Wilson, Grants Director, Race for the Cure, P.O. Box 20637, Charleston, SC 29413-0637.

Funding recipients will be notified of their status by Dec. 15.

Since 1995, the Komen Charleston Race for the Cure Community Awards Grant Program has returned more than $455,000 to South Carolina communities funding vital breast cancer education, screening, early detection and treatment projects for the medically underserved.
