Annual Race for the Cure set for Saturday, Oct. 27

Add your footsteps to the race against breast cancer at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27 when the eighth annual Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Charleston Race for the Cure takes to the streets of Charleston.

The Co-Ed 5K Run/Walk and 1-Mile Family Fun Run/Walk will start and finish at the Old Museum Ruins in Cannon Park.

Each year, 75 percent of the net proceeds from the Charleston race are allocated to organizations throughout the lower half of South Carolina funding vital breast cancer research, screening, education and treatment projects. The remaining 25 percent helps fund the Komen Foundation's National Grant Program.

Working through local chapters and Race for the Cure events in 107 cities, the mission of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation is “to eradicate breast cancer as a life threatening disease by advancing research, education, screening and treatment.”

The 5K entry fee is $20 through the day of the race. The 1-Mile Family Fun Run/Walk is also $20.

Participants can register online for the 5K and 1-Mile Run/Walk or print out registration forms at <http://www.charlestonrace4cure.org>.

Entry confirmations will not be mailed and packet pick-up will be held from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Harper Student Center located at 45 Courtenay Street.
