Danish edition of Santos book released
W.W. Norton & Company has published a Danish edition of “Assertive Community Treatment of Persons with Severe Mental Illnesses,” by Al Santos, M.D.

The English edition of this treatment manual has been one of the company’s top sellers. The volume details components for implementing assertive community treatment programs.
These are empirically-validated clinical and rehabilitative outreach programs for persons with schizophrenia, the most disabling of psychiatric disorders.
The programs allow these individuals to live stable lives in their home communities, thus avoiding repeated cycles of psychiatric hospitalizations. It is considered a state-of-the-art evidence-based approach to this clinical population.
The service delivery approach has been disseminated widely with programs now available in most states and in seven countries outside the U.S.
Santos is the director of the Psychiatry Residency Training Program
in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.
