The MUSC Wellness Committee was out in full force at the University Benefits Fair, held Sept. 28. They were present to promote the goals of the committee, wellness resources and programming available to MUSC employees.

Committee members of Team MUSC Wellness stand by ready to answer questions during the benefits fair.

The committee presented the following information and health screenings at the event: new outdoor campus walking trail map; Wellness and Life Management Activity Calendar for Fall 2001; prize drawing for wellness oriented prizes including a one-year Harper Student Wellness Center membership; self-test to determine employees' stress levels; announcements about upcoming wellness programs available for all employees like the Lose to Win Weight Loss Contest (returning in January) and Beginners Yoga classes at Harper Student Center (which began this month).

In addition, blood pressure screenings were provided by the MUSC Heart and Vascular Center.  Of the 35 employees that had their blood pressures taken, 16 had elevated blood pressure results.

The Lighten Up Weight Loss Program, which will be offered again in January, provided percent body fat testing. Of 94 measurements (60 women, 34 men), the average employee height was 5 feet 7 inches tall, average weight was 164 pounds, average age was 41 years, average body fat was 44 pounds.

Committee members will offer information at the Medical University Hospital Benefits Fair on Oct. 18. More Team MUSC Wellness Program announcements will be listed in The Catalyst and on broadcast e-mail.
