To Medical Center employees:
The flooring replacement in patient rooms and corridors has required a great deal of coordination and patience...and everyone involved is to be commended.  As the flooring has been replaced we have also used this opportunity to paint rooms, clean air conditioning vents, check nursing call systems and to conduct general maintenance checks.

To date, the 5th floor flooring replacement has been completed. The work on the 7th floor is under way. Floors 6 and 8 are scheduled for flooring replacement in the months ahead. Meanwhile, the Antepartum unit, managed by Debra Jones, nurse manager, returned from its temporary location on 5 East to its home on 5 West.  Post Partum and the Newborn Nursery also returned to its home on 5 East following a 10-month relocation to 2 East (swing space previously occupied by the former Rehabilitation Unit).

Neurology and Neurosurgery, managed by Effie Amerson, nurse manager, most recently moved from 7 East to the temporary 2 East location while flooring replacement continue. This move was a genuine challenge to accomplish considering the high patient occupancy. It is expected that Neurology and Neurosurgery will return to their home in approximately seven weeks, and then its expected that 7 West Orthopedics, managed by Barbara Hiott, nurse manager, and 7 Center functions will temporarily relocate to 2 East.

These temporary relocations are hectic and require good preparation and coordination. The concerned parties, including the respective patient care units, Construction and Design, Hospital Maintenance, Patient Access Services, Environmental Services, Communications Call Center and the contractor, M.B. Kahn, Inc., are to be commended.

Thank you very much.

Executive Director, MUSC Medical Center
