MUSC cardiac physicians attend HFSA Conference

Faculty of the Gazes Cardiac Research Institute and the Cardiology Division were very well represented at the Fifth Annual Meeting of the Heart Failure Society of America (HFSA), held in Washington, D.C., on Sept. 9-12.  
 
This meeting is the largest international conference focusing on heart failure research, which is the major focus of the Gazes Cardiac Research Institute.  Faculty participated at every level of the conference.  
 
George Cooper IV, M.D., professor of medicine and director of the Gazes Cardiac Research Institute, Michael Zile, M.D., professor of medicine and director of Cardiology Clinical Trials Program, and Frank Spinale, M.D., Ph.D., professor and vice chairman of surgery, were appointed HSFA faculty for 2001. 
 
There were a total of 18 posters presented by nine Gazes Institute faculty members. In addition, Cooper, Zile and Spinale were featured presenters at the symposium. 
 
Cooper also was appointed chairman of the symposium on Extracellular Matrix and Remodeling in Heart Failure. 
 
The contributions by the Gazes Institute Faculty was among the most numerous of those from the many institutions represented at this well attended international conference.
