PA students donate teddy bears to adult units

Students from the Physician Assistant (PA) program were on hand to spread cheer to patients on the adult units in the Main hospital.

“Our class wanted to do something for the hospital so we collected all the stuffed animals we could find and distributed them to as many adult patients as possible,” said Amanda Floyd, chairman of the project.

PA students involved in donating the stuffed animals from left are: Lauren Taylor, Heather Corley, Amanda FLoyd, Stacey Fintak, Sara Norman, Michael Jorday, Katie Dobson and Lee Anne Jones.

“I was an MUSC volunteer in the recovery room before I got into the PA program so I know how important a visit is to a patient who is from out of town and doesn't have a strong support system,” said Floyd. “Everyone likes a soft, cuddly bear or a doll to cuddle so it wasn't hard to get my classmates involved. We had a ball giving them to the adult patients and they loved the visit.”

The class hopes to do the same during the Christmas holiday season.

In addition, the Medical University Women's Club will be sponsoring a “Teddy Bear Week” in February. The event will be done in memory of Todd Carter, son of Dr. and Mrs. James Carter, who works in the Department of Ob/Gyn.

Anyone wanting to donate a stuffed animal, preferably new or sanitized and in good condition, should take their donation to the Volunteer Office.   For information, call 792-7038.
