Stuart pens fifth psychiatric nursing text

Gail Stuart, Ph.D., R.N., a professor in the College of Nursing and in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, has authored the fifth edition of her text, Psychiatric Nursing.

This brief handbook is the companion to her larger book, Principles and Practice of Psychiatric Nursing, which was published in its seventh edition earlier this year by Mosby Publishers.

This textbook is used in numerous schools of nursing across the country, has twice received the Book of the Year Award from the American Journal of Nursing and more recently received the 2001 AJN Book of the Year Award in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing. It has been translated into Japanese, Korean, Portugese and Chinese. The text is innovative in the field as it is the only psychiatric nursing textbook that has its own dedicated Web site, containing resources for students, faculty and clinicians.

On the Web, students can expand their knowledge through critical thinking questions, research opportunities, and related Internet Web sites. Faculty have web access to power point slides and test questions, and all readers can access monthly updates on medications and evidence-based practice articles.

This text was first published in 1979 and it has truly stood the test of time.

The AJN Book of the Year Awards will be published in the January 2002 issue of American Journal of Nursing. The journal will issue award certificates sometime early next year.
