Red Cross makes a challenge

MUSC's American Red Cross donor center is now staffed by Jan Sullivan, R.N. The donor center is open from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. every Tuesday and Wednesday and is located in room 273 of the Main Hospital, across from 2W Amphitheater.

Sullivan will also be doing much of the recruiting for donors in the hospital. Donations take 30 minutes at the MUSC center because they are taken by appointment only. Donors will never have to wait in a long line.

Did you know...

  • Individuals, 17 and older, weighing at least 110 pounds, and meeting all health criteria may be eligible to donate
  • A single liver transplant can require 125 units of blood
  • MUSC is the single largest user of blood in South Carolina
  • Charleston area hospitals use approximately 150 units of blood per day and only collect 80 to 100 per day.
If your department is interested in sponsoring a Tuesday/Wednesday donor blood drive, call Sullivan at 792-0219.
