Letters to Dr. Greenberg

Since becoming president, I (we) have received many letters commending our faculty and staff for outstanding patient care. These letters, or excerpts from letters, from patients and their families provide ample evidence of their high regard for our clinical services. I am pleased to share some of them with you, and recognize those who are providing skilled and compassionate care.

Dear Dr. Greenberg:
Recently my mom was a patient at MUSC for Leukemia, on 8West. The doctors treating her were Drs. Chris Brunson, Gretchen Labarowski, Colin Curran and Caio Rocha Lima. The doctors, staff, nurses and orderlies...all were absolutely incredible. Top shelf. First class all the way. They treated my mom with humor, dignity, respect, humor and courtesy. I was awestruck  at how incredibly wonderful everyone was.

Dear Dr. Greenberg:
My husband came to the Trauma Unit with chest pains. The response of this unit goes well beyond the call of duty. The staff was so very professional as well as being compassionate. He was transferred to CCU, then to 9West. He was back home within a few days. My husband said that he has never felt the sense of dedication in any other medical facility that could compare to our great institution. I am very proud to be an employee of MUSC. Please continue the good work. I have faith that this institution will become even better than ever.

Dear Dr. Greenberg:
It is with great pleasure I commend you on the long term medical care guidance provided me by Drs. Steven Sahn, Kevin Dineen, and David Turner. To say the least, the care and treatment provided by MUSC has been, and continues to be, the finest I have ever received, including the administrative staff.

In light of the myriad of government regulations, staff reductions, budget restrictions and consolidation problems, MUSC copes with it.

As a person with chronic pulmonary problems and who has been exposed to hospitals and medical care all over the world, I can truthfully state...MUSC is the best.

Dear Dr. Greenberg:
I am writing to acknowledge the superb help I received in the Pediatric Orthopaedic Clinic by a volunteer and Spanish interpreter, Cyndy Hernandez. She was extremely helpful with two of my patients and is a very fluent interpreter whose professional demeanor helped my patients and their families.

The multi-cultural demands, particularly for Hispanic speaking patients around the Medical Center, interpreters are always required but are often very difficult to find and, if found, difficult to come because of previous commitments.

Dear care givers and staff of MUSC:
A recent article in the local newspaper (Burlington, VT) Free Press stated Charleston had been judged the “Most Hospitable” city in the United States.

Within your hospitable city I wish to attest and share my gratitude for the hospitality and care I received during an unexpected series of cardiac care at MUSC in July and August 2000.

I do not intend to slight any staff or caregiver, but I do wish to commend and thank this group whom are the “tip of the iceberg“ of those who saw to my care and recovery: Gail, Gladney, Rose, Christine, John, Dora Ann, Dennis, Tracey, Tara, Erika, Kathy, Brent, Donna, Tyler, Fred, Stephanie, Adra, Jane, Betty, Panus, Angola, Rachel, Craig, Peter, Emily, Jennifer, Floy, Toni, Jenny, Beverley, David, Rya, Linda, David, Chris and Sam.

Dear Dr. Greenberg:
I am writing to let you know about one of your employees that touched the lives of many people last week.

My mother-in-law was admitted to your ninth floor CCU unit. Her nurse that evening, Terri Hamilton, did an outstanding job. She came out of CCU during the night to let us know how things were going. At the end of her shift she came and sat with us and explained different things that had taken place. Terri not only helped my mother-in-law through this difficult time, but also the family.

I have expressed my gratitude to Terri, but I also wanted you to know that she is an employee the Medical University of South Carolina should be proud of.
