Meet...Lou


Name: Lourdes Ambas.

Department: STICU.

Birth place: Mountain Province, Philippines.

Family: 3 children, 4 grandchildren: Mark, 4, Evan, 4 Elise, 2 and Alex, 1.

Favorite TV program: The Young and the Restless.

Favorite restaurant: California Dreaming, I love their salads.

Favorite chore: Cooking for myself.

Favorite dish to cook: Pancit and Lumpia.

Plans when you retire: I want to continue working, part time, volunteer at my church and go out with my shopping friends!

What do you find most rewarding about your job? Dealing with people, the nurses, the doctors, the patients, their families…

Accomplishment you are most proud of: The Director's Award that I received in 1999.

Most unusual patient: The serial rapist was in room two for a few days.

Personality trait you admire in others: Good communication skills.

What do you do in your free time? I babysit my grandchildren. I also love to work in my yard. I especially love to prune my shrubs!

Special plans for this year: I am looking forward to going on a pilgrimage with a church group to Fatima in Portugal , Spain and my name sake: the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes in France. I've always wanted to go there!

Most treasured possession: When my brother was dying, he asked me to take care of his parrot, Joel.

Something people don't know about you: Where I am really from when they hear my funny accent!

Words of advice my mother gave me:  “Do the best you can; show your love and respect. This may be your last chance to see this person.”

Nurse Denise said about Lou: “She's the angel in this unit: without her, STICU would not function like it does!”
