Meet...Doug

Name: Doug Halbert. 

Position: Pediatrics 3rd Year Resident—will be Chief Resident next year.

Birth place: Bethesda, Md.

Family: Wife, Wendy; 10-month-old daughter, Kyra; cats, Misha, Chloe, Jaspar, Emily; and Woody, the basset hound.

Favorite books: The Jean Auel series, Michael Crichton's books.

Favorite food: Chocolate milkshakes.

Favorite restaurant: Charleston has so many good restaurants—I love them all!

Favorite chore: Giving Kyra a bath.

Pet peeve: People who don't treat animals well.

Worst habit: Snoring (according to Wendy).

Education:  Wee Explorers (preschool - a very formative time), Bucknell University, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

What do you find most rewarding about your job? The parents and the kids. Kids are very honest and fun to be around. I also enjoy helping to interpret for the Spanish-speaking families. 

Organizations you belong to: The AMA (Academy of Model Aeronautics). 

What is your biggest personal challenge? Doing a good job as Chief Resident next year and helping to continue improving the Pediatrics Department.

Accomplishment you are most proud of: Building a cherry four-post king size bed. 

Personality trait you admire in others: Integrity and ingenuity.

Hobbies, activities in your free time: Spending time with Kyra and Wendy. Also, anything to do with the ocean, jogging, woodworking, radio control model airplane building, Web site building.
